A Masterworks Choir Christmas
Celebrate the holiday season with the Masterworks Choir's annual Christmas performances this year featuring the Christmas Oratorio by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns and a relatively new work by Z. Randall Stroope entitled Hodie. The Christmas Oratorio is an intimate work for choir, strings, harp, and organ, and offers the choir the opportunity to highlight seven soloists – Chrissy Welch, Tara McCormick, Dana Spencer, Shaw Thompson, Bill Hazelwood, Kevin McCormick, and Ray Taylor.
Hodie (This Day) is an impressive piece scored for choir, brass, percussion, and organ. The entire work is a symphony of praise and wonder over the birth of Christ on “this day.” This piece will be directed by the choir's newly appointed Assistant Conductor, Kevin McCormick. A Florence tradition, the Masterworks Choir will, as always, ask the audience to join them in singing several favorite Christmas carols. This event anticipates capacity crowds at these concerts, so plan to arrive early. Admission is FREE.
