Public Lecture Series - William H. Johnson
Join the Florence County Museum for a free lecture celebrating Florence native artist, William H. Johnson (March 18, 1901 – 1970).
The overall narrative of William H. Johnson’s artistic career can be understood as a sequence of defining chapters, each chapter corresponding to a specific place, and each place to a handful of influential people along his journey: his home and family in Florence SC, his wife and village in Denmark, his environment and community in Harlem, New York.
Using artworks from the museum’s principal collections as well as selections on loan from significant partnering institutions, Kindred Spirit: The Personal Worlds of William H. Johnson interprets Johnson’s life through the lens of these important relationships which defined his development.
